Driving Tips
Driving in Dubai
Driving in Dubai can be a tricky skill to master. Although the roads are all new and well maintained, constant construction and crazy drivers may have to do with the complexity of the issue. For many people, the first thing you have to get used to is driving on the left side of the road. Because Dubai is home to people from diverse backgrounds, each nationality brings some “spice” onto the road. To make a long story short, you need to have eyes in the back of your head to drive in Dubai. Although fines for acts such as speeding are quite steep, in this wealthy city, it doesn’t seem to make a big enough dent in peoples’ pockets.

If you’re here on vacation or a short stay, you can use an international driver’s license to drive in Dubai. However, if you’re relocating here, you’re international driver’s license will be void once you get your residency. In this case, you will have to register to get a UAE driver’s license. For more information on obtaining a Dubai driver’s license, contact the Dubai Department of Traffic at 04 2694444. This is a 24-hour contact number.

Do keep in mind that Dubai has a zero-tolerance policy on drinking and driving. Plainclothesmen travel about in unmarked vehicles and can legally stop you at any time to check.
