Dubai: The Testing of the Automatic Fare Collection System (AFC) for the Dubai Metro project will begin before the new year.
The AFC equipment essentially includes the ticket vending machine,
ticket office machine, portable checking machine and entry and exit
gates. Currently, around 385 Fare Gates have been delivered to Dubai while 159 ticket vending machines, 151 ticket office machines and 40 portable checking machines have been ordered for the Metro project. In a typical Dubai Metro station there will be an average of two ticket vending machines and three ticket office machines. Wheelchair access The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) recently visited the subcontractor, Thales, in France to witness the Factory Acceptance Tests of the ticket vending machines and the System Acceptance Test of all automatic fare collection system equipment, ensuring its compliance with the project's requirements and international standards and practices. The number of the machines in each station will depend on passenger numbers.
