Dubai: The Testing of the Automatic Fare Collection System (AFC) for the Dubai Metro project will begin before the new year.
The AFC equipment essentially includes the ticket vending machine,
ticket office machine, portable checking machine and entry and exit
gates.
Currently, around 385 Fare Gates have been delivered to Dubai while 159
ticket vending machines, 151 ticket office machines and 40 portable
checking machines have been ordered for the Metro project.
In a typical Dubai Metro station there will be an average of two ticket vending machines and three ticket office machines.
Wheelchair access
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) recently visited the
subcontractor, Thales, in France to witness the Factory Acceptance
Tests of the ticket vending machines and the System Acceptance Test of
all automatic fare collection system equipment, ensuring its compliance
with the project's requirements and international standards and
practices.
The number of the machines in each station will depend on passenger numbers.
However, there will be four gates, including Entry and Exit, as well as a wide gate for wheelchair access and baggage users.
