Shaikh Mohammed Yacht to Join QE2 Flotilla

The world’s longest yacht will join a flotilla of ships that will greet the QE2 when she passes The World islands Wednesday. The yacht, named My Dubai and owned by His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, will accompany the Royal Navy frigate HMS Lancaster and over 60 other private vessels at 3pm on Wednesday. Thousands are expected to come out in several areas across the coastline to watch the luxury cruise liner dock at Mina Rashid. They will be treated to a flyby from the new double-decker Emirates A380 airline at 3.15pm and fireworks at 6pm. “Such a prestigious ship undoubtedly merits a grand welcome,” said Manfred Ursprunger, CEO of QE2 Enterprises, Nakheel Hotels. “The arrival of the QE2 in Dubai will be a proud moment for Nakheel and one that will form part of the ship’s rich history.” The ship will dock at Port Rashid at 4.30pm and a VIP party will be held around 5.30pm, prior to the fireworks. Nakheel is continuing to accept registration for private vessels to take part in the flotilla. Masaood John Brown, the company which was commissioned to build the QE2 by Cunard, will send a ship as part of the flotilla. Brian Waddell, General Manager of Masaood John Brown, said: “It is a very proud moment for all here at Masaood John Brown to see the QE2 coming to Dubai on her last journey, but particularly poignant for those who worked in the shipyard before she set sail for that first time. “She is a proud testament to Scottish engineering with her hull today being in as good condition as it was when she first entered the River Clyde."
