Culture ministries in countries such as Japan and Korea play a very active role in promoting the local animation brands to become international mascots, something which is lacking in the region, Abdul Salam Al Madani, president of INDEX Holding, said recently.
Announcing the details of the first International Character and
Licensing Fair to be held from October 28 to October 30 at the Dubai
International Convention and Exhibition Centre, Madani said
recommendations of the event will be sent to the Ministries of Culture,
Youth and Community Development requesting them to be more active in
this direction.
The fair will focus on international cartoon characters, animations,
information technology, multimedia, character designs etc. It will also
showcase cartoon characters that are well known in the media,
advertising, tourism and marketing sectors and international licensing.
INDEX is organising the event along with partners including DubaiLand,
Arab Media Group, Department of Naturalisation and Residency (DNRD),
Dubai Shopping Festival , to name a few.
“The event, being held under the patronage of Shaikh Majid bin Mohammed
bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Culture and Arts
Authority, is expected to attract 15,000 business persons, traders,
specialists from the GCC, Middle East, North Africa, Asia and other
countries.
“Talented students specialising in computer graphics, who have
developed their own brands, can also come forward for licensees so that
they can be developed even further,” said Madani.
Laila Suhail, CEO of the Dubai Shopping Festival, said there would be
many experts talking about licensing and how a character can be
developed from a mascot to an international brand.
“Modhesh has come a long way since its introduction. At present, there
are 12 licensees for Modhesh. We will be launching a new initiative of
Modhesh regarding environment protection soon.
“The fair will be a good opportunity for this industry to grow and prosper,” she said.
