Deira is pretty much the oldest, most congested part of Dubai, yet it
is extremely popular. It is home to Deira City Centre – arguably the
most popular shopping mall in Dubai - and the traditional gold souk,
which makes it a favourite place for tourists and residents alike.
Although many people shop in Deira during the weekend, it may not be
the best place to live. The buildings are generally quite old and are
packed closely together, which leaves little space for greenery. Rent
is still fairly reasonable in Deira which is why the area is highly
populated. Recently, a few new, quite luxurious, residences have sprung
up along the creek, but apartments in these properties are extremely
expensive.
