Clean and Green
For those who have never visited Dubai, it will be interesting to know that Dubai, whilst an extremely busy city in the middle of the desert, is not only one of the cleanest cities in the world, it is also greener than most people would think. The Dubai government spends an enormous amount of time, effort and money keeping the city clean. In addition, they employ hundreds of gardeners and instal sophisticated irrigation systems to ensure the city is sprinkled with green grass and colourful flowers. Free from graffiti (and we sincerely hope it remains that way), it is truly a pleasure to live in such a beautiful city.
Parks Galore
To add to this greenery, the Dubai Government has built parks around the city for all to enjoy perfectly manicured lawns, soft green grass and activities galore for families and children. As at July 2007, entrance into most parks is just Dhs 5 (less than USD2) per person and free in some parks. These parks provide a great day out for all and, for those who are living in shared accommodation due to rising house rents, a great place to enjoy some personal leisure time. Most parks also reserve 1 or 2 days per week for ‘ladies and children only’ allowing time for ladies to relax among their friends.
Special Needs
Being such a modern city (with skyscrapers rising almost as fast as the human eye can see), Dubai has been able to ‘look and learn’ from older cities and, as such, has incorporated facilities not always available in older nations. For example – facilities for those with special needs. Shopping Malls, Hotels and most apartment blocks are built with lifts, automatic open and closing doors, ramps as well as steps and dedicated toilets and parking spaces for people with special needs.
